Italy; Tuscany; Florence; Oltrarno city quarter; Giardino Boboli (Boboli Garden; also: Boboli Gardens): relief style mosaic with symbol (sail on top of a turtle) of motto "Festina lente" of the Medici dynasty at right hand side of entrance to the Grotta del Buontalenti; The motto "Festina lente"; meaning "make haste slowly"; also sometimes "make haste less fast"; dates back to ancient antique Roman Times. Roman Emperors Augustus and Titus used the motto; as well. But their symbol to illustrate it; was an anchor with a dolphin. The Medici adopted the antique motto; but changed the illustration into a sail (canvas) on top of a turtle.
