Friedrich August VON HAYEK (8 May 1899 - 23 March 1992) Austrian economist; Nobel laureate in economics in 1974. Supporter of liberalism and the free market; critic of an excessive influence of the "welfare state" even if it is favorable to some aspects of the social safety nets; such as a guaranteed minimum income for disadvantaged people: the poor; the sick; the disabled; widows; orphans; etc. The work that made him famous "The Road to Serfdom" (La via della Schiavit霉) was published in 1944 and translated into Italy in 1945. Other treatises of historical importance: Constitution of Liberty (1960); Law; Legislation and Liberty (three volumes 1973-1979).
