City of Ruvo di Puglia: Ruvo Cathedral (Italian: concattedrale di Ruvo di Puglia); dedicated to assumption of Holy Mary (Santa Maria Assunta); and bell tower (campanile); seen across Piazza Dante; The Cathedral of Ruvo di Puglia was built in 12th and 13th century in Apulian Romanesque style. The main facade of the cathedral shows a seating sculpture; called "Il Sedente" ("The seating one"); most probably the financer of the cathedral; Roberto III di Loritello; also called Roberto II di Bassavilla (English: Robert III of Loritello or Robert of Bassunvilla; ? - 1182); count of Conversano (1138 onwards) and Loritello (1154 onwards). The bell tower was erected as a watch tower; around year 1000 AD.
