Comet Bernardinelli?“Bernstein (C/2014 UN271), illustration. This comet, discovered in images from October 2014, has the largest nucleus (core) ever observed at at least 120 kilometres in diameter. It originated from the Oort cloud, the most distant region of our Solar System, which lies between 2,000 and 100,000 astronomical units (AU) from the Sun. Its orbit will reach its closest approach to the Sun, just outside the orbit of Saturn, in January 2031.
