Relocation of kulaks were to work in gulags (prison camps) 1930. Kulaks were Russian peasants; wealthy enough to own a farm and hire labour. Emerging after the emancipation of serfs in the 19th century the kulaks resisted Stalins forced collectivization; but millions were arrested; exiled; or killed. 1930
