Illustration of the French physicist Albert Fert (born 1938). Fert is best known as one of the discoverers of giant magnetoresistance, which enabled the production of gigabyte-sized hard disks. This discovery won him, and Peter Grunberg, the 2007 Nobel Prize in Physics.
