Pemphigus vulgaris in the mouth of a Hispanic male patient. Pemphigus is a general term for a group of blistering autoimmune diseases, where the immune system attacks the skin and mucous membranes. Pemphigus vulgaris is the most common form of pemphigus. Treatment for pemphigus conditions usually involves the use of high doses of steroids, with antibiotics to prevent infection of the blisters. This patient had previously been treated with rituximab, a monoclonal antibody, but has had a relapse of the condition after 6 months of not taking the drug.
