Computed tomography (CT) scan of a liver (left) with steatosis, also known as fatty liver. This condition leads to the accumulation of triglyceride fats in liver cells. The most common cause is heavy alcohol consumption, which disturbs normal fat metabolism. It can also be caused by toxins, diabetes and pregnancy. Steatosis is reversible by treating the underlying cause.
