Small pearl-bordered fritillary (Boloria selene) butterfly, a member of the Nymphalidae family. The flight period is usually late May to July. This species occurs in damp grasslands and woodlands. This butterfly is widespread across central and northern Europe, Asia and North America. The larvae feed exclusively on violets. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in June.
