The International Exhibition: iron candelabra for churches, from the Royal Foundry, Berlin, 1862. The Royal Ironfoundry of Berlin exhibits a number of works...which are beautiful in their artistic qualities and excellent as examples of ironwork. Our engraving will convey a very full idea of the nature of these works, as they are without colour, save in one or two instances, where a line of silver or a simple form is inlaid. This, however, is sparingly done, and does not materially modify the effect. The central piece is in the German Gothic style, and the others are in a kind of Italian Renaissance, but the works are more exalted when viewed as examples of ironwork than of art - for as castings they are exceedingly beautiful, while as works of art they are, while good, yet not as equal to some works of peculiar magnificence which are in the exhibition.
