Juvenile female macleays spectre (Extatosoma tiaratum), sometimes called the giant prickly pear stick insect. These large insects can reach lengths of 20 cm as adults and are indigenous to Australia and New Guinea. Juvenile often have a greenish tint and are covered with thorn-like spikes used for defense and camouflage. This one rocks back and forth as if blown by the wind and is thought to be a defensive behavior.
