Gastrotrich moving through organic matter underwater. Gastrotrichs are microscopic animals common in all aquatic environments, typically living amongst soil or sand particles. They have a pair of glands used in adhesion to these particles, one of which secretes a glue and another a de-adhesive used to break the glue bond. They feed on anything organic that will fit in their mouths, including bacteria, algae and organic detritus.
