Precipitation of lead iodide. High-speed footage of a yellow precipitate of lead (II) iodide being produced as potassium iodide is poured into a lead nitrate solution. The lead iodide is insoluble, and so precipitates out of solution. The reaction is a substitution, with the other product being the soluble potassium nitrate. The equation for the reaction is Pb(NO3)2 + 2 KI ? PbI2 + 2 KNO3
