Male cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) pecking at white-throated sparrow (Zonotrichia albicollis) to chase it away. This cardinal species inhabits the northernmost cardinal range and is found throughout the eastern U.S., southeastern Canada, and eastern Mexico. Males have much more vibrant colors than females and are slightly larger in size. White-throated sparrows are found throughout much of North America, east of the Rockies and excluding Mexico.
