High-speed footage of a match being struck. A match contains a flammable solid material at its head which can be ignited by frictional heat generated by striking the match against a rough surface. Typically red phosphorus is used as the rough surface and a potassium chlorate sulphur mixture is used in the head of the match. The chemical reaction generates both heat and light energy which radiate away from the reaction seen at the burning head of the match.
