Animation of a take-off from a planet and a flight into a globular star cluster. Globular clusters are enormous spherical aggregations of stars, which get denser and denser nearer the core. They are very old objects, and typically contain stars that all formed around the same time. They have none of the star forming regions that are found in galaxies. Globular clusters orbit larger galaxies as satellites. Our Milky Way has more than 150 globulars, while the larger Andromeda Galaxy has as many as 500.
