Verreaux's eagle owl (Bubo lacteus), also known as a giant or milky eagle owl. Whilst not endangered, it is fairly rare. It is also the largest of the owls on the African continent. It eats medium-sized mammals including monkeys, hedgehogs, hyraxes, larger birds, reptiles, frogs, invertebrates, fish and even carrion. The clip shows an immature owl in a termo-regulating posture. Filmed seeking shade under a Camelthorn tree in summer, in the Auob riverbed, Kgalagadi transfrontier park, Southern Africa.
