Coloured scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of a section through a sweet pepper leaf (Capsicum annuum). In the body of the leaf are numerous cells containing chloroplasts (green). These are small organelles which are the site of photosynthesis within the leaf. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use sunlight to turn carbon dioxide into sugars.
